Yes, nice write-up. When they get the heritage experiences going again at Fen End, anyone here can have a go. Highly recommended, although the clutch is an on/off switch. There's a short story in Jan-Feb's Jaguar Journal.
They never used DCOE Webers though.

Why do you say that, Peter ? Were not the 1954 cars Weber carburetted ?

My D will use DCOEs because I can't afford DCO3s at ?3500 each x 3 for unbranded repros!
They are superficially similar, being twin choke side-drafts, but there are significant appearance differences (the tops of the carbs are quite different, and there are even two patterns of DCO3). The sandcast DCO3s also have a vertical mounting bolt pattern rather than splayed, so they can't be swapped without an adapter plate.
I'm not the only impecunious wannabe though. The correct D-type manifolds for 8-degree tilted engines are available with a DCOE flange bolt pattern, so that's what I'm using. The DCOEs and the Lynx-based but upgraded engine frames will be pretty much the only significant non-D components under the bonnet. Perhaps if I win the premium bonds...
