I will be taking delivery of a 65 3.8 roadster in about 2 months after a full ground up restoration and will require an agreed valuation insurance.
The premiums i have been quoted range from ?160 upwards. How can i be sure that an insurance company will honour the valuation in the event of an accident. If anyone has any info, ie what to look out for and recomendations for companys i would be very greatfull

I use Footman James. For an 'agreed valuation' they will send you a form which needs to be countersigned by a known Jaguar specialist or recognised Owners Club register secretary who has inspected the car and can attest to its market value. They also need five current photos taken from different angles. Never had to claim but Footman James are recommended by all the Jaguar clubs. Over the years I have had several different policies on the car and premiums ranged from ?260 p.a. (Footman James) to ?1,200 p.a. (Norwich Union) with an agreed value of ?73,000. As for honouring the agreement, providing you have been truthful and use a trusted specialist (e.g. Harry, CMC etc) you should have no problem. Their assessor will check over the car in the event of an accident and can quickly tell whether the car was as you describe it.

I also use Footman James, but I have to say that their service has been deteriorating since the takeover by AON and frankly I would recommend that you try elsewhere. You do not need to have the car inspected, but you will need to use the valuation service of either JEC or ( less usefully ) JDC . These are more readily accepted by the insurers than valuations from any trader .

Hi Christopher,
I have always been insured with Footman James, with a JEC valuation, and although I've never had to make a claim have found that their admin side to be the same as many other insurance companies.
I'm interested to hear more, offlist if necessary, about your problems with Footman James. Maybe its about time I checked other companies.
