#1 Series2 inlet manifold on Series 1 car

Post by norman m. macleod » Mon Feb 01, 2016 1:58 pm

Hi all,
If a Series 2 manifold is used on an otherwise Series 1 set-up (incl. Series 1 type radiator and header tank), is it OK to block off the small copper pipe connection facing forward from the thermostat housing (and connected to the top of the radiator, if in a Series 2.......)........? I assume (perhaps wrongly...) that it has no function in a Series 1 set-up, nothing to connect it to....? All words of wisdom appreciated.......
Thanks/regards,
Norman

#2 Series 2 inlet manifold on a Series 1 car

Post by norman m. macleod » Thu Feb 04, 2016 3:18 pm

Hi all again,
Still no luck in resolving this query, if anyone can comment, it would be greatly appreciated. The engine in my restoration is now ready for initial start-up, but I'd feel better if this was resolved. I'm sure there are plenty out there (wiser than I.......) who can give a definitive answer.......?
Best regards,
Norman.

Hi Norman,
Regretfully I cannot answer your question, guess other fellows more experienced can.
I have the problem the other way around: having a 3.8 manifold to mount on a 4.2 S2 engine. Pity you're a bit too far, or else we could swap!

Norman, would it be worth dropping Ken Jenkins a line, he's one of the knowledgeable people in the JEC and has quite a few Jaguar engines and parts:

Or David Marks who presented the XK Engine seminar for the JEC:

Hi Norman, yes you can block it off. Just take a little more time in bleeding the system.
