The 'E' Type Forum

Hello all,
Here is a slightly crazy idea and respectfully would not appeal to all.
Back in the eighties I rode a Norton 850 commando all over america
I also belonged to a club for Norton owners in the states and in the spirit of camaraderie, the club put out a handbook with names and contact info of all the members who were willing to share and suprisingly it was quite a lot. I mean hundreds of listings.
Many of the members were offering repair help, to meeting for a drink or even staying over during trips on the road.
I personally put up a number of guys visiting NYC and that was reciprocated on many of my runs across america.
In actual fact neither I nor anyone else actually asked for a crash, it all happened in an organic way, sort of helping out those with a common interest.
Fast forward to 2014 and 2015.
I drove the E on two epic runs both summers in western europe.
4000 and 3000 miles respectively. Great times but missed one thing, shooting the breeze with fellow owners along the way.
So in this spirit I will start with:
Anyone coming to NYC, drop me a line and at the very least let's have a drink and talk amongst other things, shop!

Thoughts.

I'm in! Kansas City area.

DC Metro area for coffee and tools and crashing out, as far as I'm concerned. I can even supply a non-running Dunstall 820 Norton. But the 'crash' bit will need pre-arrangement with the VP Hospitality, who doesn't go much on 'spontaneity'.

I haven't yet met an E Type owner who I didn't like and enjoy shooting the breeze with. Count me in for those visiting or passing through the DC area. I'm 20 minutes from the Mall and 10 minutes off of I95 and I66.

Great idea. a list of possible "help centers" would reduce anxiety when on a longer trip. We had a similar list when I rode a St1300, good to know where like minded enthusiasts reside. I'm near London Ontario, big shop, most tools and space in case a layover is required.

Hi. Being in wet rainy miserable UK sadly I can't see myself cruising through sunny Kansas....but who knows.

Beeing thinking about this....It is a good thought but, as someone who had their E type nicked from their property last year - I got her back in 24 hrs - it would be worth being cautious about putting too much info out there.

While all us E owners would welcome visits from others - I certainly would - it is sadly a big bad world out there. A hand book could easily fall into the wrong hands. I certainly would not want any location detail to be published either on paper or on the web....that would be a gold mine for unscrupulous types to go out and pinch cars.

Maybe a mobile number or an email address could be made available.

Don't forget that PM can be done via this site. Easy to arrange a meet at a local pub etc. Get to know them before inviting them back for tea...

I attend various summer shows and love talking to other owners of E types and other classic cars and have got to know quite a few local people with exotica in their garages but it is worth being just a little cautious about advertising what is behind your garage door.....sorry to sound a bit negative but after my experience last year best to just a little cautious about putting too much info out there.....hopefully someone out there can come up with a plan....
