#1 Avatar Issues
I looked for a Forum Admin section but could not find one so posting here.
My Avatar was linked to a PhotoBucket image but somewhere it has taken a hit.
I there fore have tried to put up an image from my computer. The image is 191x183 pixels and is only 12.4kb well below the max image requirements of 200x200 and whatever kb limit.
The image is not going in.
What is the problem??
Thanks
Garry

Garry,
other than sizing issues which seem to be filfilled, the album you are loading the image from must be set as a public album, not private. Have you checked that? So if album settings would have changed from publich to private, linked pics would no longer show, and new links to that album will not work afaik.

Thanks Martin - yes the original Photbucket link may have had that issue but it is showing it is public.
However the upload of the pic file from the computer shows it has supposedly uploaded but it is not appearing. I will go back into the folder to ensure they are public as well.
Thanks
Garry

Thanks for that - so the only way to do it is via Photobucket - the current issue is that, as reported on many forums, links to Photobucket have gone down and that I guess is why I lost my Avatar in the first place.
Maybe Admin need to update the Avatar section under Profile to take away the non Photobucket options.
I will leave it a few days to see if Photobucket sorts their issues and give it another go.
Cheers
Garry

We do (did) have an Avatar upload function that allowed your Avatars to be stored on the Forum server but this disappeared after a server crash. We have also recently lost the ability to auto email new members or existing members when they join or change their password. Our current web provider is not responding to our concerns so we are moving to a new host shortly and will take the opportunity to put all the functionality back. Until then the Avatar workaround is to put it in a Photobucket folder and link from there. It will work if you paste a link into the "Link to off-site Avatar:" box. The image needs to be no more than 200x200 pixels and 15kb in size.
Try pasting this link as an experiment: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/q ... al/red.jpg

It fails when you see that small three colour box instead of the picture you want.

Thanks David - when I put the PhotoBucket link in (the red etype), as advised above, I get this message
"The URL of the remote avatar is not valid"
However I used the IMG URL in Photobucket but I then used the Direct URL and the red E-type appeared as my Avatar.
So I reloaded a pic from my Photobucket - hmm it was a full size pic - they dont actually need to be as small as 200x200 but the avatar then nearly takes up the whole page.
I reloaded the pic with the correct resolution so should be all visible OK now.
Thanks for all the help
Much appreciated
Garry

Sorry Garry, I should have made clear you need to use the 'Direct' link.
