#1 Stolen E Type

Post by Stephanie Plum » Tue Apr 26, 2016 10:58 am

There is a thread on Pistonheads about a stolen E Type - link here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... &t=1590685

Content below:
"My mates E-Type was stolen last night from London NW8
If anyone has any sightings of this car please let me know and Met Police.
(where else is a good place to share this info please share)

REG 423 UYP
white
E-type hatchback.
Distinguishing features

Left hand drive.
Missing trim bits from inside as he was refurbishing the head cloth etc.
Its also very loud you might hear it coming before you see it.

Was last seen driven away by car thief around 1am yesterday from St Johns Wood, police are investigating, but no sightings. Owner is distraught as this car was very special to him.

It had very little fuel in and has a locking fuel cap so could not have been driven very far as we still have the keys."

Good idea Steve as it would at least block one avenue off to any possible seller.

Post by cactusman » Tue Apr 26, 2016 5:47 pm

I had mine pinched last year. Same model and more or less same year. I had a tracker.

Get the police to visit The Hall Farm. Tillingham. Essex CM0 7ST as soon as possible. That is where mine was found and returned. I suspect yours may have been taken by the same gang. The plod recovered mine and I am pretty certain know the thrives but lacked evidence. I hope you get it back and I hope they catch the scum...

Also call Herts police and ask to speak to PC Mumgai who dealt with my theft.

I have spoken to Herts police and asked them to investigate the location from where mine was found....long shot but who knows.

On a general note though...summer is coming and we are getting our cars out....scum can see them on drives etc. They can come back later and lift your car if it is not secure.

Please do review security for your prized possession. Don't rely on the door locks or ign key. They are next to useless. Get a huge shroud steering lock, a wheel clamp and make sure your garage is locked and alarmed....and for heaven's sake fit a tracker to your car...NOW......

Try having two nicked In one night, from a supposedly secure removals depot. Another reason I hate soaring values that increase the incentive to thieves.

"Try having two nicked In one night, from a supposedly secure removals depot. Another reason I hate soaring values that increase the incentive to thieves"

Couldn't agree more.

The only people who gain out of these inflated values are investors and in this case thieves. I can't see how we do.

These values make it much more difficult to leave you car on the side of the road like you use to and find it still there when you get back.

Me too. Cant recommend one but there are many cheap trackers available. These respond to a request from any phone with a text back showing its GPS location. However, the best do so much more.

So is your/my 2+2 worth ?35 plus a pay as you go mobile contract, or ?200+?

Compared to insurance, either is a small cost.

As part of the restoration, I have put the chassis number in on various discrete places on panels and components with a dremel prior to priming etc.

I think as well as the chance of a car being stolen and given a new identity, there is also the probability of it being stripped for parts.
A good used bonnet in primer ?2,500, doors in primer ?500 each, su carbs ?2,000, rear axle assembly ?1,500 and so on. Heaven forbid you left a toolkit or owners handbook in there the prices they are going for on E bay.

#16 Stolen E type

Post by cactusman » Fri Apr 29, 2016 5:25 pm

Any tracker is better than no tracker. I had my car stolen last year....tracker brought it back. Certainly stamping parts is a good idea. However I doubt most e type cars are stolen to be broken up and sold on well known sites...I suspect the one here was stolen to order and would be designed for foreign shores. For heaven's sake be mindful of security both when you are out and about with your car and when it is at home. Never rely on the original car locks. Make sure your garage is secure and ideally alarmed. Be suspicious of any visitor taking an undue interest. I take car reg numbers of all unknown visitors who glimpse mine. Having been a victim once maybe I am a bit paranoid but it is far far better to prevent the theft happening than have to recover your car later....

I would like to see the JDHT being proactive in keeping records of any stolen vehicles so should a future request be made for a certificate for a stolen car be made the requester won't get a certificate but a visit from the law..

its a scary situation for sure. I have heard of cars being stolen, not just E types, from Classic Car events. Its actually at these that I feel the car is the most vulnerable. Places such as Goodwood, where you are generally away from the car for a long time, leaves scum the time to break in and hot wire a car , as we know it will take not very long to do this. My new Range Rover, which has keyless go, has to have a tracker fitted as the cars have been cloned and insurance companies will not take them without a tracker. Mine had one fitted in a very unusually place and the main pick up for the all important diagnostics port was hidden by the engineer, so much so that the main dealer could not find it to service the car and had to call me! Anyway, the tracker I have on that has a map facility that shows where the car is at any time, and certainly in the golden 24 hours after being stolen, I think this would stand a very good chance of getting the car back before the scum find the tracker and disable it. Even then it will track the car until that point. I don't have a tracker fitted to my classics, but am seriously thinking of doing so.

There's a new version of the 123 ignition. It has Bluetooth 4.0, and connects to your phone.

And you can disable it so that it only delivers a spark...when you enter a pin in your phone.

So, it's either a trailer or a truck haul job, but no more driveaway...

Because I'm daft I don't understand the Pay as you go SIM card costs?

How much is this likely to cost a month, is it only if you use your phone app to locate it and it then sends a signal or is it continually sending a signal?

This is the jobbie I have my eye on
