Of course it is a faux advert but can you spot the clue that confirms it?

No dash between the 'WD' and the '40'?

Main giveaway is the missing hyphen between WD and 40. According to WD-40 themselves: "WD-40 Company does not believe that the ad that has been making the rounds on the Internet ? and is purported to be an actual ad from the 1960s ? is real. We first saw this document in late October, and have not been able to verify its existence through our internal records. In addition, there are several features of the ad that lead us to believe it is not accurate and has been created more recently. First, the paper in the ad appears old and wrinkled, but the type on the ad does not, which indicates the text is probably something that was added to a digital background. Second, we would have likely used WD-40 with a hyphen, which does not appear in the ad. And third, it is highly unlikely that WD-40 Company would have authorized such an ad, even in the 60s when ad standards were less stringent than they are now." On the other hand WD-40 only employed a dozen people back then which is why they are being less than emphatic in their denial I guess.

Despite being quite clearly a gag, I've still printed it out for my collection of curios and funnies. This started several years ago when someone posted on eBay an auction for a bottle of Lucas Wiring Harness Smoke Replacement. It also includes the Aussie "Start Ya Bastard" spray, used recently by our own Neville when he did his public first start of the XJ13 engine.

:D

This stuff:

The mere mention of it used to make an old (and now sadly departed) mate of mine roar with laughter whenever we encountered any sort of mechanical issue
