I know it has its own thread in the events forum but not many people seem to look at it! I am just going to make a little bit of noise about the third High Peak Run in just over a month's time. I spoke to several of you at Bicester about it, and just wish to put a few details out on here:

Image

It's one of my final events before I head off on my placement year, and last year (despite the weather) it went pretty well I thought.

Our third run will start at the Winking Man pub at Upper Hulme (ST13 8UH) up on the Staffordshire Moors, some 7 miles outside of Buxton. We will assemble at 10:30 for light refreshments before departing an hour later. After briefly exploring the lanes of Staffordshire and Cheshire, we will cross the Peak District to conclude the day at the Snake Pass Inn near the Ladybower reservoir for a late lunch, which has ample space for parking and excellent cuisine. The 68 mile route will be a mixture of quiet country lanes and long flowing sections over the tops, along with some excellent views.

Just let me known either by email or via the forum if you are interested in attending :)

You're making me homesick after 14 years in Buxton. Remember to doff your cap if you go down Market Street near the Otter switch factory.

I'll be in the UK two weekends too late

No worries John :) Currently got 12 E-Types scheduled to attend. My mate and I checked the route yesterday and had a cracking run out it has to be said. I am quite pleased with it, no real nasty bits, both pubs looking forward to hosting us, and some stunning views and places I never knew existed too! Here's a light-hearted shot we took yesterday, onboard my little car:

Realised I had left the number off my last post  Currently got a dozen E-Types signed up, although several more in the "maybe" pile and a few I haven't heard from yet. We shall find out soon enough!

All set for tomorrow. Over 15 cars due to attend, weather looking reasonable and the pubs are looking forward to us arriving. Woohoo

I can breath a sigh of relief. All went well and I hope that everyone had an enjoyable day! The day started with one horrendous un-forecasted downpour before drying up as the day went along. We lost one or two at that stage but numbers were up on last year, with 15 E-Types assembling at the Winking Man:

And finally at the Snake Pass Inn for a fabulous lunch.

Thanks to Paul Brown for being on hand for us again. The Dolly Sprint was his, and his sons came along for the ride with us. John Darvill's (V12 Epyte) car is the only one to have attended the run in all three years!

We shall see you all again next year! (Maybe not me, but Richard will certainly be doing the run!)

Thanks Simon for another cracking day out with some superb roads, scenery and views, even if some of us did have a detour or two

Good to see this event growing with more cars each year, look forward to next year

Well done Simon and sorry I could not be there because of the injury to my right foot.

Presumably folks noticed the 'Man' actually 'wink' as they drove past the eponymous rock formation? Simon will explain I'm sure.

We certainly did, I think others did to as we pointed it out to them!

The Winking Man pub takes its name from a formation of rocks just down the road, which is part of Ramshaws Rocks. The rock face resembles the side on-view of a man, and as you drive past it one of the rocks from behind temporarily obscures the eye, thus making the rock face appear to "wink"
