Summer's here, at least in Wiltshire, and today was a good one.

Off to a local event this morning, the Vintage and Nostalgia Show. Never heard of it? It is a bit small and local at the moment and only four years old, but its getting bigger each year. Loads of old vehicles of many stripes from slammed and distressed Yankie pickups and a pink Caddie, to specials build on Riley 1 1/2 or Austin Seven chassis. And three Es, mine in its freshly polished carmen red, a green s3 2+2 and a white 3.8 roadster that looked like it was a barn find. Or very well used. Everyone was dressed up in period (mostly 40s and 50s casual or 'gent in the country').

Long and short of it, mine was voted best in the show. I'll make the most of this as the old bag of nails doesn't usually feature in the running for prizes. Prizes were sponsored by a local brewery, so I have a few bottles of fine ale to quaff in the afternoon sunshine.

Blimey, your 'old nail' won a prize

Seriously, well done mate, well deserved!

Well done. Nice for a 'real' car to do well - just shows the 2+2 desirability thing is in the minds of Jaguaristas, not Joe Public. I'd far rather go to a local mixed show like that than a field full of trailer queens.

After drinking all those beers the clip on mirrors might look level :-) Could be the angle of the dangle but the left one looks a few millimetres low?

What does the GRRC badge stand for?

The mirrors may be slightly offset so that SWMBO can see traffic when pulling out on the continent (which assumes our cheese eating neighbours will have settled their squabble when I change to driving on the wrong side of the road - June 25th). Or maybe I wasn't all that accurate when fitting them!

GRRC = Goodwood Road Racing Club. Gets me into the Members Meeting, the paddock areas at the Revival, tickets for Festival of Speed, and the right to spend silly money for a stay in the Kennels.

Very nice. Notice there's a waiting list and no mention of price that I could see - so that's me in the dog-house and not The Kennels...

I wouldn't worry about the 25th. If the transport kerfuffle isn't sorted in France by then, you can have a guaranteed adventure of a lifetime by switching to driving on the right at home instead.

Staying in the Kennels might be tricky. Might be best to aim for the hotel......
