I've recently replaced the Dunlop SP tyres on my S3 2+2 with Michelin 205/70/15 tyres. Should the tyre pressures remain as recommended in the original handbook. Out of interest I put the car on a weighbridge and the front axle was 770kg and the rear 730kg ( full tank of fuel, no driver, passenger or luggage)

Tyre pressures
#2 Re: Tyre pressures
Hi
Assuming it is the XWX http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/20 ... n-xwx.html Michelin recomend 24psi front and 28psi rear or 38 & 40 for high speed.
However what i read into that is:
don't go lower than 24 + 28 which is probably fine for dawdling around country lanes at slow speeds and having a nice soft ride.
If you are going to take your car on a race track and wring it's neck then go for 38 & 40
However for general road use on today's modern roads you will often maintain an average speed that is higher than would often be maintained in the '70s so i would think you want to be running at 32 + 34, but experiment and find what suits you. you may find it wanders a bit at high speeds so increase the pressure. you may find the ride harsh so let a little out. You may find it under-steers a little so increase the front pressure. However find t he level you like. but i don't think you want to be less than 30psi
