i just bought an 1973 v12 e type ots, which cames with a spare v12 engine
nearly complete with SA after engine number.
4 stromberg 175 carbs with it

could anyone advise how much this would be worth or how often this engines come up

Just put it on ebay and let the market decide

Unfortunately the way the ebay auction system works means it is the second highest bidder that determines the selling price. Final price is the second highest bid plus the basic bidding increment as long as there is a higher bid - the actual highest bid does not come into play as long as it is higher than the second highest bid + increment.

That's like a racing driver saying I only came second, cause someone beat me!

If you want to get an idea, look on the "completed listings" section under advanced search on ebay. One went for £300, which was taken from an XJS, and said to be a good runner before removal with 80,000 on the clock

There could be 20 or 30 bids befor the winning bidder and the second highest even enter a bid......its called an auction and the sale price is determined by the person who wants it most by paying more

yes, quite . Its only the same as going to a car auction and being prepared to pay £X but it never reaching your maximum level. You pay your money and takes your choice.

If the engine is from an XJ12 then I'm afraid it's not worth very much; maybe £200 - £400. The problem is that the heads very often corroded onto the studs, are a pig to get off, and most are scrap anyway due to rot in the waterways....and a stuck stud or two chopped off in them!

It's worth more if you can split the heads from the short motor, and the manifolds / carbs from the heads.

If it's an E type engine then it has a lot more value, mainly for the sump / oil pickup, front cover and exhaust manifolds. I had to pay £1200 for a scrap E type V12 engine 15 years ago when building an xjs engine up for a project car.

I agree with MarkE,
V12 are very cheap when coming from cars other than E Type.
In other words, the specific bits from the E give the value to the engine because a quite good XJS or other saloon car engine is a cheaper base to be converted into a usable engine for the E than restoring an threadbare original E one.
This is what I' doing at the moment....
