Well they ain't cheap but they look good and are far more sensibly priced than the prices original kits seem to command. On my Christmas list

That's about the most sensible thing in a long time I've heard wrt these toolkits. True they're still not cheap but at least it's another option. Good job CMC. On the plus side I could start my E-Type off by buying the toolkit

Dont waste your mony Simon....they are never used.....on the other hand if you can find an old tatty worn you one and sell it to some muppet for a couple of grand than can go towards your E fund

Why would you pay that for twenty buck's worth of Chinese aftermarket crap that is of no practical use?

People pay a fortune for original tools because they are rare, old and irreplaceable; they are in effect antiques.

They have no practical value however. No one is ever going to actually use them, in the same way that no one in their right mind is going to jack up their 3.8 roadster with a Metallifacture jack or work on their cars using tube spanners.

The only "value" in having the tools is either personal satisfaction or concourse points. Replicas don't provide either.

Good idea Steve Richard never had a 'proper' toolkit in the 4.2, he always carried a more useful one and a decent jack. I would probably be of the same opinion, I want to be able to fix something if (when) it goes wrong. Good point Andrew - at least it's not being made out to be something it's not.

The price is pretty good considering what is included. Try putting that lot together yourself from various sources and you would quickly break the budget once postage for each item is taken into account. Great initiative by CMC for those who would like to have a tool roll - hell most cars out there are laden with reproduction parts anyway!

As regards jacks the only one I would not use is the Shelley, the Metallifacture ones are perfectly safe and are about the only ones that will fit under an E-Type with a flat tyre. Bottle jacks are useless and the only 'modern' that will do as good a job is the one from a Porsche 944 or 993. It does require the shoe being filed slightly to fit the cill socket but they are cheap, light and hugely reliable. Lots for sale at around £36 on eBay.
