I have a windscreen mount aerial in my OTS and it is pretty mediocre even when paired with a modern receiver. Also bear in mind it requires not only the signal cable but also a 12v supply. If you really want decent reception then I would suggest a windscreen with built in antenna from Pilkingtons Classic. I have a telescopic aerial on my FHC and that works really well.

Steve,
I fitted the Blaupunkt aerial as I didn't want to drill into the bodywork. It hasn't been a great success as I haven't been able to obtain any decent reception. It's something I'm looking to remove because it doesn't work too well and the two aerial wires attached to the disc that run along the windscreen are quite noticeable.

Thanks Chris....will give it a mis.......shame that Pilkington can build one into a windscreen but dosnt look like there is anything small that can fit to the glass and give good reception.....may just have to bite the bullet and drill the rear wing and fit an electric one......anyone have a recomendation for one that will fit in the inner rear wing of a 2+2.......an all in one unit or motor with flexi drive ...thanks

Can't understand the reluctance of people to fit a telescopic aerial to the E-Type bodywork. It is a period fitment and Jaguar made space for it in the front bulkhead. There are even some drilling instructions around here somewhere:

Steve, if you are planning on fitting a DAB radio then you don't need a special aerial. My aerial is in the roof of the car above the windscreen (no idea why, but must have been there years), with a simple DAB/FM splitter (the long river company sells them) it gives a very good signal for both DAB and FM on my radio.

Dont mind drilling but was looking for an easy option....most modern cars dont have external aerials so thought the technology may have moved on for better reception.and being a Blaupunkt disc aerial thought it would do the job....dont fancy the dab route...reception around my area is dire...........Geoff do you know what aerial you have....thanks

I've more or less decided to go for the Pilkington built in windscreen one (as my screen is chipped and needs replacing) and have spoken to Nick Gardiner about how it would look.
He quotes:
"The Antenna path goes up from bottom middle vertically in the centre of the screen, 2 wires one left and one right with an 8mm gap between them. They then follow the top of the glass 20mm inboard (ish) and finish when they get to the edges. We only make to order so I don’t have one I can show you either." Approx cost is £450 + fitting (inc the bronze tint I need to match the rest of my XKE S2 glass)
I do have a rough sketch from him, but has anyone had one installed yet to see how well it works and can get some pictures ?

Steve, my aerial is a simple, two piece telescopic one about 90cm long, sprung at the bottom and hinged there, too. It is on top of the roof just behind the screen. No idea of the make, but looks 1970's.

Aerial needs a clear view of the sky as RF signals will not penetrate metal.
