#1 Why did this fetch so little?

Post by PaulColeman » Wed Aug 03, 2016 2:56 pm

Does anybody know why this car made so little... Link

It looks like a really nice car and £48,380 seems to be a bit of a bargain?

"Whilst it may not be a perfectly restored matching numbers example"
Could that be the answer?

Yet, as you say, on the auction pages it looks a nice little number.

£124,880 for another S1 4.2 FHC. £140,630 for a very early S1 OTS, claiming to be the one everyone would want (and pay lots more for?)! £118,130 for a nut and bolt low mileage S2 FHC.

I think those prices must be inclusive of the commission and VAT. I find it hard to believe the bidding in the room (i.e. 'hammer prices') would have settled on such finely judged amounts as £118,130, £124,880 and £140,630.

Did anybody attend the auction and actually see it in the flesh? It looked like a bit of time and elbow grease would have worked wonders on it

to me, ANY series one 4.2 especially a RHD would be worth that even if you had to do a full rebuild on it. Perhaps it was just a bargain, Auctions are not what they were a couple of years ago and perhaps this was just a cracking buy?

Ye gods! That's one hell of a mark-up for simply giving a car a quick valet.....

They are going to put repro bonnet parts on it to make it an OBL though. £150 get's you £80k

Still can't see it - OBL with waggling bonnet, common flat floor with no foot room. Poor value for money IMHO.
