So, this looks quite interesting for those in renovation mode - a thousand watt laser to burn of rust etc:

Not sure how it would work with paint though (fumes etc), but its quite impressive with that surface rust.

The mind boogles at what the cost might be though, maybe something for CMC and the big boys?! Want one though...

I'm afraid it is a con . Why do we see the same bit of rust being "burnt" off every time on a repeated basis ? And why is nothing at the end of the travel burnt as the laser beam just goes over the edge ? Furthermore, I have grave doubts that a laser device of such power could be handheld, and it would of course be lethal

It looks pretty cool, and less cleanup than media blasting, but I suspect that it isn't likely to be less expensive than media blasting, and as it is literally burning off the rust, what amount of heat is going into the panel? How much more heat if the laser is buring off wax, paint, and undercoating?
