New Classic Car Show Channel 5 tonight at 7
#1 New Classic Car Show Channel 5 tonight at 7
I have looked at the trailer and looks like its going to be quite good. Just to remind anyone in the UK (maybe it will be available via the internet as well) that it starts airing tonight 5/2/15 at 7 pm. I have no connection with the program whatsoever other than I like Classic cars!

Watched it & wanted to like it but the glossy studio and chat/chemistry between the 2 very 'shiny' presenters made me a bit queasy. Thought the glass wall future classics thing was a bit naff too. I'll no doubt tune in next week though !

I was a bit disappointed too in this new show and felt the stilted, contrived and weirdly slow conversations between the oddly slick, (Quentin's hair and Jodie's spray on trousers) presenters was just odd. I have liked Quentin's previous articles and TV show appearances and will always give him the benefit of the doubt as he is an E type man through and through, although he has just sold his E type. I really liked his (Top Gear 40th year E type Anniversary ?) E type feature from many years ago when he drove it across some wind swept moors.
When it comes to women car presenters, they are either snortling uncontrollably and trying to be "one of the lads" or coyly using their "supermodel" status, (which was just thrown into the conversation with a sly glance), while trying to talk in a technical foreign language which just does not come across. I agree with the naff glass wall future classic display as just trying too hard.
I have seen both presenters in much better programmes and undoubtably they have good skills - Jodie especially in racing - but the whole programme seemed too contrived and lacking. Did the Ford Mustang feature actually mention or show the Bullitt fastback ? I really liked the "Barnyard Find" feature and the presenter there had a natural style as did the lad on the TR7 who showed real enthusiasm.
It can only be good for the world of Classic cars and spreading the word - and I also will also be tuning in each week.
Cheers,
Dave

Hi
I liked the contents of the show, but not the presenters whom I agree were not particulary effective (INMHO Quentin came across as a stereotype second hand car sales guy ...smarmy delivery).....yes I agree that its worth watching and hope that it improves

The 'similar topics' highlights are a very good addition to this newly formatted forum - except that an hour quickly passes without realising!
Happened to see a repeat of the series just this week, such a shame the chemistry/style of the presenters is just too contrived...

Not in my area. At 8 pm on C5 I've got The Cars that made Britain Great. Not the Quentin Wilson show but more of a documentary, narrated by Rufus Hound. Tonight's episode includes the E-Type and Jodie Kidd from the previously awful Classic Car Show. At least she's waxing about the E-Type rather than cringing about Quentin's screen-charisma deficit.
BTW, in flesh Mr Wilson is a very charming, witty and knowledgeable chap.

Program contained lots of E-Type material. The conclusion, that the Ford Capri and the E-Type were equally sexy I found a bit odd, having owned both a 2.8 injection Capri, and an E-Type. Both had long bonnets that invited comments about little winkles. Both were front engined rear wheel drive 2+2 coupes, although the Capri had more room in the back. Both needed serious modifications to make them handle as well as they looked. Neither made any difference to my relationships with the other sex, in fact the kind of female attracted by a bulging bonnet, is precisely the kind of female I'd wished to avoid. And if the Capri hadn't been stolen in 1996 I'd still own it today.
I was once asked why I owned the Capri. 'Because I can't afford an E-Type' was my answer. My E-Type is a dream fulfilled, a dream I first had not as an adolescent worried if my manhood would be sufficient or would require help, but as a very small boy fascinated with speed and machines and cars that looked like rocket ships.

I wasted another hour of my life ( I'd watched last week's programme as well, but still hadn't learned the lesson).A load of Z list "celebritiies" the only one of which I knew being Jools Holland ( oh, and that idiot who figures in one of the doing up cars in 20 minutes programmes ) making largely inane comments . Shame, because if it had been done properly it could have been quite interesting

Not to mention Vicky B-H who seems to consider herself a font of all knowledge on cars. She said she drove one 15yrs ago an it was "tut". She loved the Capri.
The E-type is over 50yrs old. If i want to drive very fast in supreme safety and comfort I drive my BMW 530 M Sport. It doesn't attract anyone and gets me from A to B without fuss. If I want to have fun I take the E-type. 15Yrs ago even the newest E-Type would be 16yrs old so don't look upon it as latest tech or handling.

This program was utter rubbish
Well obviously I'm an Etype fan because I own one and so does my Woman
How that stupid VBH can say an E drives like a tractor and then rave about a DB5 is mind boggling. A known fact that the DB5 is a tractor by comparison. Forgetting the fact the the E is over 50 years old
Put it this way if my Woman happily drives her 65 Roadster without a single complaint then that's a major coo for how good the Etype is today let along back in the day
Stupid program

Not a well received program then.... Hmmm!
It occurred to me that there was an intersting correlation between the cars and the celebs giving opinions. VBH preferred the girl-next-door Capri to the supermodel curvy E-Type. Supermodel Jody Kidd preferred the E-Type to the narrow hipped Capri.
And last word on whether the Capri is the more desirable car. According to the DVLA database there are approximately 3,600 Capris remaining on the road out of a production run of 1.9 million. Over 4,800 E-Types are MOT'd taxed and insured and another 1,600 are SORN'd out of a production run of 72,000, of which 60,000 were exported. Capri a more desirable car? It seems most owners didn't think so.
