Also...if you use a tracker and it works well.....list the details, model, sim contract etc..lots been talked about trackers but cant see that anyone has actually given info of what they are useing... (apoligies if ive missed the details somewhere)

I have a chip (n) Trac fitted. GSM/GPRS/GPS system. It did work for real. Without it my car would be in lithuania/nigeria//china by now.

Works with most Sims except those from 3 I believe. I have a T-mobile one on a payg. Just remember to get the tracker to send a text every month or so by calling it to ensure the SIM remains active. The only thing not to do is apply the warning stickers supplied. DON'T.

They do have a club discount scheme and the E type club is (or was) eligible.

Please do not ask where mine is...that is a secret. Please do not post any details of where you hide yours either.

I'm reminded of an incident which occurred some years ago. On an organised tour there developed a certain amount of high jinks. One event involved cars being moved without the owners consent by someone who knew how to get into and start E-Types. One car steadfastly refused to start, no matter what this individual did.

It's security measure? Nothing more complicated than a battery isolator of the kind fitted to all cars prepared for racing. The clever bit was hiding the isolator. I know where it was, and I'm sworn to secrecy.

Having stripped the car to bare metal and beyond, I took the opportunity to mark the VIN number in hidden places within the shell and bonnet, almost an extension of what they did at the factory. I intend to do the same with the trim panels etc.

All the ignition disabling means are great but do nothing for career thieves with a flat bed. In addition to trackers and secret switches apply a huge Denver boot if leaving outside over night and make sure your garage is secure when at home. Yes. Chains and locks can be cut with an angle grinder but that takes time and noise which thieves hate.

The bad news is that if the big boys (or pretty much any one of us listers) want your car, it is already gone unless you have a wheel or steering wheel clamp which is stout enough that I have to grind through it, or bring a spare and replace the wheel while Crespin keeps lookout. If Angus is there with his trailer then all you's Jags is ours faster than it takes to trim your beard.

You can defeat a joyrider with relatively simple measures, but between Crespin's derring do, and my sheer bloody mindedness your best strategy is just be nice to both of us. As to Angus... he's in it for the money.

Manufacturer states that it will work perfectly in USA. Sim card not an issue?
Any problems with transmission when it is hidden under the car sheet metal?
You mentioned you got a good deal on ebay. Currently listed on ebay same price as from manufacturer. Did you find a better deal?

Let me know how its performing for you. Now that my car is back on the road I have the willies about it getting stolen.

Hi Bob,

I paid £106 after finding an auction without reserve as opposed to buy it now. I found the tracker first and liked the qualities listed before searching eBay. Just keep looking on ebay if you are interested.

I will report back on how it performs. I've only had the tracker for a few days so thorough testing still to be carried out.

I'm thinking of using one of these:

It uses the Bulldog PP10 tracker from the caravan and farm equipment industy and at £250 RRP for the unit and 2 years subscription included (thereafer £25 per year) is good value.
What I really like is that there is no SIM card required and it uses all mobile networks in the UK. All the other features seem to be very good as well and I understand they have just added Port alert to it as well.

My only concern it that it does need a "Line eye sight" install which could be tricky !
& no, I have no interest in the company, just doing my homework to find the best solution.
Anyone had any experience with this ?

Some reasons that spring to mind:

No permanent safe power source unless you use a car kit and covertly fit it. Still needs "Line eye sight"
Not approved by insurance companies for this use.
Only works on one mobile network in UK, not all at the same time
No Geo-fencing capability.
No Motion sensor capability
No Port alert capability
Phone battery will die after 2/3 years
Not a professional solution for an expensive vintage car !!

Well, for £15, I cannot see what harm it would do. No installation necessary. I am not too bothered about tracking my car when it is parked in my garage,

Leaving a phone in the car does not affect the insurance. I only pay a couple of hundred pounds a years for my comprehensive insurance up to £60,000 with no tracking device.

At the end of the day, If you are taking your E-type out of the garage for a few days, you could pop one under the seat fully charged and track it all over Europe.

7 days on one charge would enable even the most inept police force in the world to get to within 10m of your car before the battery ran out, I could even have a go at getting it back myself.

The thieves could disable the car battery, and chop the rest up. the Nokia would still work. Long as they did'nt' find it. I suppose the phone could end up in an area with zero network coverage, agreed.

Even if I had to replace the phone every 2 years, it would still take over 15 years of phones to cost the same as the tracker. I am pretty sure the tracker will be obsolete in 2031, I will just buy the equivalent £15 phone for Tescos and log the imei number.
