Anyone looking for a 63 3.8 FHC, if it goes within the estimate, could be good ?

Mike, are you naive or suffering from wishful thinking? As nice as it would be to buy one at that estimate.

Auction houses usually give unrealistically low estimates to tempt people in. I would suspect it will fetch £50k plus... Looking at the pics I wonder what lurks st the back ends of the sills/front of the rear arches....even in the pics there is a suspicion of something not quite right. No engine bay pics but, as they say, a good basis for a restoration or rolling restoration...

I paid just below the low end of that estimate range for 889457; 450 cars or so younger than that car. My car although complete is a total pile of shit.

It needs looking very carefully if my experiences of that particular firm are anything to go by.

I buy a many cars from auction painlessly, with the exception of the 2 transactions both involving that company.

The first was a "rust free" "South African" Mercedes 1963 220SE coupe that had more patches than an old quilt. The boys in the workshop fell about laughing when they saw that one. They blamed the seller.

The second was an "excellent" Bently S2 with a new MOT. I should have learnt my lesson. The brake booster had been removed so it had no brakes and no exhaust was even fitted. They blamed the seller.

If you look in the small print it reads something like "the description of this car was provided by the vendor and therefore we cannot be held liable etc......"

In other words "we can make up whatever we want to say about this car and there is nothing you can so about it after the sale".

So buyer beware. Sorry, the mere thought of them opens up old wounds.

As the old saying goes....caveat emptor. It would need a thorough examination I would say. Certainly the n/s sill even from the photo has a mysterious line extending back from the bottom of the sill to the wheel arch. Might be a photographic artefact.....or might be a serious tin worm infestation needing major surgery and adding £££ to what ever the final hammer price is.

Formerly a Canadian LHD car . Sills have been "repaired" according to XKE data. Was in an auction about 2 years ago, whether it sold or not I don't know. Note all the bits of chrome missing . You have been warned !!!

Ah Canada - 'The Land That Traction Forgot'. Luckily there's an App for that.

The Application of sodium chloride.
