#1 Ouch!

Post by Simon P » Mon Oct 17, 2016 8:57 am

Had a very pleasant run through the Surrey hills in the E-type this weekend - the gloss of which was only somewhat removed by filling up on my return to The Smoke at One Pound Thirty a Litre... (ok, technically £1.299 per litre, BP Ultimate).

If it's not already too late, I think I might stock up for the winter....

Ouch is right! Here in Virginia, I'm paying $2.26/gallon for 89 octane (mid-range), although my E runs fine with no pinking on 87 octane. If my calculations are correct, you are paying the equivalent of $5.98/gallon which is over 2.6 times what I'm paying. In the non-urban areas and in the central part of the US, I've recently seen prices under $2 for 87 octane. If you think that Simon's getting off easy, Carsten, how much are you paying now?

Mark,

southern Germany about USD 5.70 / USgallon. There's a loooot of tax involved, so there. About EUR 1.37/liter.

Here in Italy prices are hovering around the 1.5 € x liter mark... most of which are taxes.

In 1973 I purchased my first gallon of petrol. It cost 46p. Today that 46p is worth £5.47 (give or take depending on the inflationary effect one wants to fudge. That's £1.20 per litre.

Around 1.60, because you need to buy "Super plus", or "Shell Vpower" to get the correct octane figure.

Here in Australia ATM, BP Ultimate is hovering around the $1.42 to $1.45 per ltr AU, the same goes for Shell V Power. The cheapest is E10 around the $1.10 range, Only a few mths ago we had the cheapest fuel in a long time, where Ultimate was less than a Dollar per Ltr and Diesel was $0.75 per Ltr.
I wish they would bring that price back and everyone will be all  :bouncyyellow:

OTOH, the price of gas in United Arab Emirates is $0.49 per liter or 0.40 pounds per liter. Shoot, you could even afford to drive a Series III there!
