I always thought the XKSS was the ugly duckling of the E-Type's evolution, but the recently unveiled new factory XKSS's have surprised me by looking rather awesome, want one....

But will they be road legal and be issued a reg no by the dvla....me thinks not...the light weight e types could not be registered or so I read...probably matters not as only one remained in the UK. These xkss recreations will disappear into private collections as investments...

What next then? SS100's or Series One E types? D types? Oh God where is my Euro lottery win when I need it.

The correct chronometric has a jerkier 'stepper motor' type needle movement but that one seemed to swing to and fro quickly and smoothly as he changed gear. Hard to be sure it was only a second or so glimpse...

No registration on that car and no, I'm not clear that they can be made road legal anywhere. I think D-types will be next since they are basically identical. I'll be interested to study the carbs as the only correct new DCO3 Webers are cloned from Weber originals which are NLA. Jaguar have been red hot lately on enforcing their IP rights, which is their prerogative. I doubt they have formally licensed C&G to copy the D-type and LWE engines they have used in the ontinuation cars but maybe they have? It doesn't matter because Jaguar hold the rights themselves. I would bet, however, that they did not get a license from Weber to use the repro carbs.

The person who supplies them pixelates the Weber nameplate on the carb top on his website pictures - doubtless for legal reasons. To be accurate, Jaguar should display Weber badges on their XKSS carbs. Is there a high-res engine photo anywhere of the new XKSS?

Silly to show an upside down engine shot around 9.5 minutes when they describe the Webers When you take a still photo from the exhaust side, the Weber carb labels read back to front and upside down. The Editor clearly hasn't twigged, and therefore when they switch to still shots he/she turns the whole engine upside down to make the word Weber readable...doh!

Good shot of the correct jerky chronometric tach movement though, when Jay starts the car up around about 5 minutes later. Compare and contrast with the fake smooth tach swing on the Jag recreation in the prior video.

Thing is all these cars are very rare and there is a huge demand - hence the mad prices for original cars at auction. Jaguar and now Aston Martin have seen an opportunity to both raise their profile by building these copies/recreations/continuations.....call them what ever suits your opinion, and also make a few quid into the bargain.

Can't see Ford making Model T's any time soon - most people could not drive them - although I do recall reading somewhere that Ferrari were supposed to make 100 250GTO's for homologation purposes but they only ever built 39 or so. Who knows...given that Talacrest is selling an 250GTO for a rumored $55 million maybe Ferrari will knock ot the remaining 61 cars for a bargain £5.5 million each..that would bring in $335.5 million and I would imagine they would sell in hours...

Only the hyper rich can now afford some of these exotics but there are plenty of merely super rich who want to get their hands on one so watch this space...Aston DB4GT's won't be the last.....although the Earl of March won't be inviting any of them to the revival any time soon

Mere mortals like me will just admire at car shows...I would not want the responsibility really.
