removal of clutch

Sorry for a simple question....do I need to remove engine to replace clutch on series 2 roadster ?

Safest way is to lower the engine downwards. If the car is put on blocks ( securely) and the manifolds, oil filter and other ancillaries are removed, you should be able to lower the engine enough to remove the bellhousing and change the clutch etc with the engine on the floor beneath the car

Leaving the bonnet on is possible but really rather dicey because you are much better with the engine crane approaching from the front rather than the side. You need 3 men to remove a bonnet the proper way, but a number of people have devised a safe looking method whereby you undo the strut or springs ( whichever you have as a bonnet restraint ) so that it will open vertically. You then put a roll of spongy material under the front end, and raise the bonnet to the vertical preferably near a wall so that you do not have to move it. Tie the rear end of the bonnet off to the rafters , release the two securing nuts, remove the top hat bushes, and wheel the car away backwards

If you use the tying up method you do not need 3 men!
