indicator issues

Just removed indicators on my S3 to change the mounting rubbers as old ones a bit worn. When removed found that there was a large amount of what appears to be some form of rubber filler, which I had to carefully remove with a scrapper from the paint work. Not surprisingly the new ones do not fit properly with the expected gap. See images.

Does anyone know the reason for this, is it normal? I believe the previous owner had a new bonnet fitted, could it be that it is that at fault or the light clusters.

Here's hoping there is an easy solution.

I also not that one indicator has the lower half painted white, is there a reason for this and should both be the same.

Also how do you get the rubbers to remain in place when you refit the light clusters.

Hi Dave, not sure about the fitment issue, looks like poorly shaped pods on bonnet rather than light units. The lenses should be all amber for UK cars, The white parts are for sidelights which are fitted in the headlights in the UK.

Just checked again, I thought it may be a ser 2 lens but it isn't right for that either.

Poor fit after repairs is common, and there is very limited scope to adjust the light position, so often the solution is to put sealant between the rubber and the bodywork to stop water getting in. Sometimes judicious grinding of the edge of the light fitting can get you a better fit.

I use Super Glue (cyanoacrylate) to fix the seal to the light before installing it.
