I don't know. I'd just follow what the common wisdom would be on that topic. Why do you think you will be over advancing the engine? Altitude? Fuel quality? Most ECUs now can give you barometric correction with a second MAP sensor and multiple tables for fuel types.

kind regards
Marek

I’m also thinking about a knock sensor, bolted onto that hex boss at the back of my xJ12 valley cover (1st pic). I've upgraded to HE (high compression) heads and pistons. Also I’m going dedicated LPG which is a variable mix of propane (RON 110) and butane (RON 91). A knock sensor would enable less conservative ignition timing and my ecu to auto adjust for different mixes. Except, in Australia, LPG is practically pure propane. But so easy to do I’ll probably give it a go.

Well I don't know about the temperatures in the death valley but i wanted to place all the electronic in the distributor housing for a cleaner look. As I'm not driving EFI the board would easily fit and not generate too much additional heat. The reason to incorporate knock sensors is not that I have to but that i can (TPIC8101). Are you planning to use an ECU off the shelf or do you plan your own ?

There is a fellow in Norway Ole Mobeck who makes a system where you can have the choice of distributor or not.

https://mobeck.com/jaguar-v12-efi-kit/

Does anyone know anything about its performance, reliability or installation.
It is one of the options being considered by myself and a friend who is also now doing a rebuild.

Hello Peter, my interpretation, based only on what I read in your links:
The Mobeck system does not give you choice of distributor or not.
There is a kit under development for already distributorless engines.
The available kit is for fuel injected engines with Lucas CEI distributor. A Lucas CEI distributor performs two functions. The first function is to distribute the spark energy output from a single coil to each of the 12 spark plugs. The second function is to vary the ignition timing (it does this via vacuum and centrifugal mechanisms). With the available Mobeck kit the first function is still required however the 2nd function, ignition timing, is no longer provided by the distributor, instead this function is performed by the (new) ecu. Functionally this would be similar to Jaguars 1989 upgrading from the Lucas to the Marelli ignition systems.
