#1 Fuel pump first run

Post by myJagV12 » Wed Jun 09, 2021 4:54 pm

Hi Jagies,

I did not search the forum about this issue for a long time and I am a bit too excited ...
Just filled gasoline for the first time in ~20 years so the fuel system was completely empty.
I did fit a new fuel filter in case some debris has remained in the tank.
Now the pump (I have the original double pump) is trying hardly to get the air out of the pipes (i guess). Klick klick but not very frequently :D
Is there any help I can give it without bathing in gasoline ?
I think I mounted it the right way around but I am not absolutely sure
When test-running the engine outside of the car the pump was doing fine but gthat was months ago.

Thank you for your advice !
Tom

Edit: I have a vacuum pump - should I try to suck the gasoline to the engine bay ?

Update:
When I removed the Banjo the pump ran much faster and I found out that the fuel-pipe in the trunk was totally clogged and not even a drop of gas had reached the pump. It is not bent and looks ok from the outside but well it is 48 years of age ... hose with inline filter
Guess I will have to get new ones

clogged in an area of about 3cm:

And only one carb. flooded - could be worse

All fuelhoses renewed and dealing with B-Front Carburettor now.
I thought I could fix the valve in situ but screw #6 ..
And when attaching the carbs the lower right nut has already become an enemy of mine :hammerdrill:

for that nut (just had the saga myself ) use a medium reach socket 3/8 drive and a short wobble extension, easy peasy then. However that was a doddle compared to removing the brake cotter pin to get the master cylinder out, had to remove seat, steering wheel to get my rather large body into the footwell to pull pin with long nose pliers, a torch and the removal of some skin off my head

Ouch ! But in the end we always manage somehow. Marek told me it would have been much easier to take the manifolds off - well next time ....
Today the engine ran in the car for the first time after almost 20 years. I can celebrate the anniversary :drinkingcheers:
