#1 Engine plate stampings

Post by skodajag » Thu Dec 09, 2021 8:29 pm

Am I right in thinking that on the E Type engine plate the letters/numbers stand proud (ie are stamped from the reverse side) rather than indented?

Jonathon, no. Certainly my original S2 plate isn’t and if you look at post 87 in this factory fit thread you can see how they were. Hope this helps. Searching on “plate” posted by Heuer will give you links to various discussions of the best people to get them made for you if you need one. Andy Raynor at Hutsons is one sugggestion.

There is no engine plate......there is a chassis plate........which has engine, gearbox, chassis, body number stamped into it..the engine number is stamped into the block..........the chassis number is also stamped into the front picture frame.......body tag is stamped in reverse so sits proud on rear of car.......Steve

This was the photo which misled me, although looking more closely it’s only a few digits which seem to stand proud:
