I hate multi factorial problems ........

At least a year ago I posted a question about a series 2 , 4.2 roadster which in warmer weather started to fail , the engine stopped and took about 20 minutes to start, with this finally happening on the Le Mans ring road on entry to the historic meeting last year. I thought it would be of interest to let everyone who sent answers see the solution. Basically most answers were correct and we had a multi factorial problem ! First there was 2 washers missing from the fuel reservoirs so we have a vacuum building. This was rectified and allowed the engine to run for more than 30 minutes ( to the minute). However the uneven running when in slow traffic continue. I assumed a heat problem, and the radiator was found to be inadequate and replaced. The otter switch was not always working so this was changed. Still the uneveness continued. So the rotor arm was checked and yes it was a copy and did seem to short out when warm so was changed. Still the problem persisted, The ignition was magnatronic...could this have failed , but it was new. At last the answer, simple no doubt was found. The coil had cooked as there was no ballast resistor as required by lumenition. We will see, but so far the problem has gone. By the way , the plugs were changed, the fuel system and pump serviced at the same time

Well done, it is great when somebody gives feedback on the final solution. All to often people have problems, ask advise and when they eventually solve the problem forget to report back the answer

Spoke too soon..... problem reoccurred and when holding screwdriver on top of distriubor cap was able to almost stop engine ....new distributor cap installed and seems to drive well. Had a fantastic retired guy balance carbs, chokes, and mixture and she goes like a dream, I wonder for how long
