I have a 69 2+2 auto and when I stripped the box I found the pressure regulator casting was broken. I have placed a wanted ad on the forum for a box working or not but so far the only response is to visit the spares event which I doubt I can manage.
So I have been considering alternative boxes and I believe the XJ6 was fitted with the BW12, 65 & 66 and wonder which would be the best choice. I would think the later 66 would be best for parts availability but would it fit as a direct replacement? I know the kickdown mechanism is an issue as the BW8 has a cable that pushes and the 12 has a vacuum modulator. I think the 65/66 are cable and they pull so that would mean altering the mechanism, somehow.
Has anyone changed to a later box?
Thanks
Tony

Thanks for the quick responses, Steve and Christopher. I have spoken to a few people so far without luck and have sent emails to Moss and E type uk.
Question for Christopher, who is Graham Whitehouse and how do I contact him?
Thanks, Tony

Hi Tony,
I recently needed some parts for my BW12.
Speak to Martyn tel: 01708 440308 at Automatic Transmissions, 144 Hornchurch Rd, RM11 1QH
There's a good chance he can help you out and he will post.
I have no connection with his business, just a very satisfied customer.
Good luck and let us know the outcome.
Andrew

Many thanks for all the suggestions, I contacted most of them and in the end found the part at a reasonable price at the company Andrewk suggested. I think they are called Chase Autos and they are very knowledgeable with regard to these old auto boxes and they have a stock of used parts. Not only did they have the regulator but they are supplying me with an oversize thrust washer and a spacer plus the seal/gasket kit. Like Andrewk I am a very satisfied customer.
Thanks, Tony
