Small Petrol Leak

Had to leave the ignition on today whilst repairing the reversing lights (about 5 mins) and noticed the fuel pump does not quite stop ticking, perhaps once every 20 secs or so, followed by a smell of petrol.
There is a leak from all three carbs.
On removing the air cleaner there is a pool of petrol coming from the main jet area/ bottom of piston and leaking out under each trumpet. Once the engine is running, then no leaks.
I have checked all floats and valves and they appear to be shutting off correctly.
Anyone else experienced this or should I just not leave the ignition on without running the engine?

Hi Simon the fuel in the float bowl isnt shutting the pump off.... either a sticky needle valve or possibly a leaky float thats sinking a bit....or float gap setting isnt quite correct... Steve

Hi Simon.
There is nothing wrong with leaving the ignition on, just remove the white wire at the coil to stop it over heating. Its a good way of checking you are not getting flooding.
What fuel pump do you have if its been changed from standard you may have to higher fuel pressure.
Have you got the notched fiber washers on the bottom of the banjos , also you can lower the fork height from the 11 mm to a max. of about 12 mm . Also check the forks & the needles are not jaming when they are on full drop .There is a tag on the back of the fork to stop this.

Thanks for info, I have lowered the float heights by a couple of mm and this appears to have stopped it flooding
