#1 Indicator problem.

Post by PainswickEType » Mon May 27, 2024 9:20 pm

1970 Series 2 open top. I have a weird problem with my indicators when signalling right.. I have the indicator/horn/headlight flash stalk. Only when I indicate right, the dashboard indicator warning light flashes and you can hear the relay clicking. Then after about 15 or 20 seconds, the dashboard warning light stops flashing, but the relay carries on clicking and the indicators carry on flashing front and rear. If you turn the indicators off and put them on again, the same thing happens. I've had the switch apart and cleaned the contacts. All looks ok in there. I just don't know enough about electrics to think through where the problem might be. Can anyone help me please?

I'd swap the dash bulbs in their holders from left to right and from right to left. If the same happens, but now on the right, then you have a faulty bulb. If the problem stays on the left, it is somewhere in the wiring (or earthing) on the left and if it goes away, then you likely had a bad connection somewhere.

kind regards
Marek

Thanks for that. Just to confirm, tye indicators are working as they should, but the dashboard light for the flashers works intermittently when turning right

When indicating right or when turning (as per steering) right?

As Marek suggested start swapping out bulbs...if the problem occurs after 15. 20 secs then its possible a bulb heating too much and stopping...faulty bulbs anywhere in the indicators can do weird things...Steve
