Post by Bigtommy79 » Sun Nov 10, 2024 1:44 pm

Hi,
Does anyone know where i can get 4 x B1CG metering needles for the stromberg carbs on my V12 e type?
I have called all the usual suppliers and no one i have found stocks them.
Thank you all!

Not even Burlen? That would be surprising to me. If you are willing to pay shipping from the U.S. you might check with Joe Curto. joecurto.com

The reason i need them is i have just had the engine rebuilt using UK spec pistons (it was a USA car with low compression pistons) and i took it to the local rolling road for a tune up and there was not enough adjustment left to get it running rich enough. The B1CG needle was the type the rolling road suggested but sadly it turns out to be un available. What needles do people find best for UK spec cars with standard exhaust, air filters etc etc?

There is always the CNC option....or just wet or dry for the less fastidious.

Edit: In my impecunious youth, modding various English machines that passed through my hands, I used a simple setup on a drill press to make up richer needles using folded strips of 400 grit sandpaper stroked against the spinning needles to a cadence count. Then plug cut testing, and repeat until the engine was happy.

In those days of no money, no internet, and no information, it worked well enough.

It could be done! I'm going to search for the correct needle first i think. Much easier!!
Fingers crossed someone has some tucked away somewhere!

Wow. Thank you! I just messaged them to see if they have four and if they can post to UK!
Don't know how I didn't find them. Really appreciate that. Thank you!
Hopefully I can find a UK supplier too!
