#1 half shafts, flange yolk and splined yoke

Post by kgb123 » Sat Jan 24, 2026 1:39 pm

Afternoon,

Getting around to doing battle assembling the IRS armed with my Haynes manual, parts manual and the Jaguar World Engine Overhaul (including IRS and SU Carbs) manual....Sure there's nothing to it

I did a search on the topic and found some great threads with lots of what I imagine will be very useful information which I've booked marked, but Ive a question regarding whether or not a half shaft is matched with their specific flange yolk and splined yolk. I can see some markings on the half shafts but nothing on the yolks. Are they balanced or can you simply fit the yolks to half shafts regardless?

As a follow up and having just located my Radius Arm Safety Straps, is there a template anywhere of what these should look like. Ive seen video's of folks matching misshaped strap to a known good one, but by the look of mine they are both out of shape. No element of symmetry,it looks like they've just been shaped and bashed to fit as best they could regardless of hoe they should have been shaped and fitted

Hi...no not balanced just assemble your universal jojnts..no template for radius arm strap just look at the parts suppliers or Google images but note there are different shape straps depending on model...Steve
