#1 Fuel Pump

Post by Peter Harrison » Sun May 31, 2026 7:32 am

Hi All, my old SU AZX 1308 EN electronic fuel pump failed 11 years ago. The replacement unit from SNG has worked well for 11 years & 55,000 miles. However, recently, instead of ticking for 3-5 seconds upon “ignition on” only (to fill the reservoirs), it now often ticks for quite a long period of time. I switched to a new/replacement pump and the extended ticking phenomenon persists. I can’t see any fuel leaks and I don’t think the carbs are flooding as it starts and runs well. Anything to worry about? Anybody experienced this? Regards, Peter.H

From my experience with the same pump, no, nothing to worry about.

Can happen in hot weather and possible air locks, not sure if it's fuel tank level dependent, couple of times with my car it ran so long you'd think there was a leak somewhere, once started all was fine.
