Good morning,

After close to 3 1/2 years working on my 1966 E FHC I have problems with my flasher. Actually I hear the relay "klick" but only once and no flashlight is going on. The relays is the one it was working with before I started the restoration (same with a new one). I took the indicator switch apart and have added new wires on all contacts, cleaned everything and fixed (took it apart and checked everything again - and it seems to be ok.

Has anyone a detailed photograph of how the wires of the indicator switch are connected? I wired the whole car and had no problems with it ...

Thomas, I have never got a new flasher canister to work (well 2 out of 2) and have always used the old one. If you trace the wiring to the 3 pin connector for the canister (on the LHS on your car) then turn on the ignition, and lift the indicator switch up or down. This should generate current in one of the 3 connectors. Do this for both positions of the switch and this will prove your wiring is correct and that the fault lies within the canister. I cant remember the colours of the indicator circuit but it is easy to trace.

Hi Schutz,

I have had a similar issue. The easiest way to check is to disconnect the flasher unit, there should be a green live wire, 2 light green wires joined to the same terminal - these feed the flasher warning lights on the dash and 1 green/brown wire which feeds the indicators themselves. Link with a short piece of wire from the green to the light green wires and operate the indicator switch, each dash warning light should light depending on the position of the indicator switch. Remove the link and connect from green to green/brown and operate the indicator switch again, this time the indicators should light depending on the position of the switch. If this works you have proven the supply, indicator switch and circuits of all indicators and warning lights. If this does not work check you have a 12volt supply at the green wire. If this is ok then the flasher unit is faulty but please remember that with some of these older style of units both indicator bulbs on each side must be working or there will not be enough of a current draw to operate the flasher unit on and off.

the problem is solved. It seems that the pre-owner changed something on the wiring and used a different type of relay. So; replacing the relay did not help. Today I have received a new one from sngbarratt and it was perfect from the first moment on ...

I have replaced my relays recently with SNG parts, flashers work great but I have not the distinctive clicking sound when the flashers operate. They work great both left and right, but no clicking sound as a reminder the flasher is on. My hazard (another relay) does click though.
