#1 Correct Engine for S2

Post by golden oldies » Mon May 07, 2012 9:20 am

Hi,

I've just bought an E-Type, its been in a shed for near 20years, bodywork is excellent (owner has been working away at it over the years)
The original engine is missing but he has a 4.2 from an XJ...I'm new to e types so what should i look out for and how acceptable is it to fit this one in?

It is a perfectly acceptable substitute and is effectively an identical engine to that in the S2 . ( Incidentally if you refer to mark 2 you will cause confusion, since a Mark 2 is the saloon running from 1959 to 1968 ) . A genuine S2 E type engine will have a 7R xxxx number, whereas an XJ6 engine will have a 7Lxxxx number or if it is a late one ( which originally had fuel injection) 8Lxxxx
