Started assembling my 4.2 engine.
Decided to keep rope seal
Advice please on which way the conrods go in. Is it big end eyes to the exhaust side or to the inlet side
I have had advice from respected engine builders but the advice is not consistent. Half go for eyes to inlet half for eyes to exhaust
It is not covered in the workshop manual as far as I can see
Or does it matter
Advice appreciated
Con rods

If you look at the top of the pistons, they are probably marked with "Front" which gives you the direction they face. If the pistons are split skirt ( which on a 4.2 they may not be ) the split wall goes to the left hand/exhaust side of the engine . If they are solid skirt, then the numbered faces of the conrod/bigend cap should go to the exhaust side of the engine.( Each conrod is numbered on its side on one side only with its cylinder location and Jaguar numbered from back to front i.e. 1 is rear and 6 is front ) As a cross check, just to ensure that the pistons are the right way round on the rod, look for a front marking just in case
