#1 Brake master cylinder pushrod

Post by jingleycatjaguar » Mon Nov 10, 2014 9:58 pm

Is there anyone out there that could measure their brake master cylinder pushrod please?
Part number C26529.
Its for a series 1 4.2, 2+2. It should be the same on a series 2.
The early ones had a different part number ( C25901).
Mine is 85mm from the clevis pin hole to the end.
The reason I ask is that I have excessive travel on my brake pedal before anything happens. Everything is brand new and properly bled. It has occured to me that if my pushrod is too short that may be the cause of the problem.

Thanks
Steve

I have a spare pedal box here (with the earlier part number) and the pushrod measures 5-1/2" (139mm) from the centre of the pivot to the end.

(Not from my 3.8, it's from a 4.2, about 1964)

Thanks for the reply. It seems that I have the correct one. THe problem with the excessive travel looks like a sticking piston in the NEW master cylinder. Its being rebuilt today so hopefully I can re assemble it tomorrow.

If once you have reinstalled it you have the same problem, try pressure bleeding the MC.

Be sure to adjust the threaded pedal stop to prevent the pedal coming up too high.

That begs another question,. What is the correct adjustment for the pedal?

Whatever you like so long as the piston returns far enough to replenish the circuit from the M/C reservoir.
