It turns out I have to abandon the engine block for my 1969 OTS.
I'm looking to find a slightly later XJ 4.2 block and rebuild from there.
However, I was thinking of installing the whole engine (keep the manual transmission) to get EFI and if I found an X300 car, DSI as well.
I know the stock XJ intake manifold has issues with the E frame. Two days (weeks?) of cutting and welding can fix that.
Does anyone know of any sucsesses along these lines?
I read the E-Type EFI thread some time ago and will probably go one of those routes if I can't find any support for this bit of foolishness.
X300 E?

On the Jag-lovers E-type forum Pat O'Brien describes how he put an X300 XJR lump into a V12 where there is far more room between the frames. That had to use the X300 Grrag box and was a lot of work. Maybe he described it here too?
Perhaps you don't mean X300 at all but the EFI Series 3 XJ? The X300 (AJ16) intake and exhaust are on opposite sides and the engine is tilted so you'd need the extra room.

Whups! My Bad.
You are quite correct. I drove and maintained a1997 XJ-6L for 3+ years and had totally forgotten that the intake was on the left side of the car.
That just adds "re-route the exhaust pipes" to the mountain of things that are needed to make it work.
I'll dig into Mr. O'Brein's work and see about some of the other pitfalls...

You won't be able to fit your E-type flywheel, clutch or transmission to the AJ6 or AJ16 engine, but if you fit the Getrag 265 used pre 1990 on the 3.6 or 2.9, or the 290 used on 3.2/4.0 then it won't fit an E-type tunnel - especially not a short wheelbase car like yours. Pat shoehorned his bits into a roomy V12 and still had lots of work. You'll just end up with a near-worthless hacked-about tub IMO. Better to invest in serious upgrades to the XK engine starting with a late 4.2 block?

Dag-nag-snap-frigging computers...
I tried to search in the Lumps and E-Types archives over at Jag-lovers (I'm a member there, too) and came away with nothing useful. 154,876,543,650 related postings? Google was even worse!
Anybody have any clues to a link to somebody that met anyone who seriously considered doing this?

A Dutch friend called Arnoud Borderwijk did the swap from an AJ6 XJR and an AJ16 I believe into Series XJ Coupes. He'd be in the XJ J-L forum archives. It's way easier in the roomy XJ engine bay of course, but still lots of work.

(Ignore my last post)
Thanks, I will stop considering this path since I want to keep the clutch, gearbox and propshaft!PeterCrespin wrote:You won't be able to fit your E-type flywheel, clutch or transmission to the AJ6 or AJ16 engine, but if you fit the Getrag 265 used pre 1990 on the 3.6 or 2.9, or the 290 used on 3.2/4.0 then it won't fit an E-type tunnel - especially not a short wheelbase car like yours.
