#1 Twin "V" belt Pulley - Not the "W" belt

Post by BT7 » Wed May 13, 2015 11:39 am

Hi,
I am looking for a twin "V" belt pulley to use on my MK2 3.8 with air conditioning. I want to run the alternator and the crank pulley on one belt and the crank, water pump, compressor and idler on the other belt. I need the twin "V" crank pulley to do what I want. I am not looking for part #C19517 - the "W" belt pulley.

Anyone have a lead on one?

Thanks.
Lin

Any 79-86 XJ in a junk yard should have a double pulley. It would also hVe a double pump pulley, so an alternative might be to run stuff off that instead of the crank? Depends on load and space I suppose. A late XJ damper also has a v groove around its periphery, so you could run two belts off the crank with only a single groove pulley - plus you could fit the XJ pointer and strobe from above if there's room?

Hi Lin,

You might be interested in my 340 air conditioning pulley modification on JagLovers

I used a double pulley from SNG, that was intended for a power rack conversion; it was a double v and a single v on the same pulley. This was several years ago, so I do not know if they can still provide it, but if you are interested I will see if I can find the part number.

I have since moved over to a 4.2 crank damper, which as Pete says, has a v pulley in its diameter; I run an alternator from this. I have a single v pulley on the damper, which runs the water pump and the air compressor.

I don't know if you are aware, but the 4.2 pulley has different bolt spacings to the 3.8.

#4 teeth on belt or not

Post by pmansson » Sun Jun 21, 2015 11:04 pm

On a 420G with AC, I had a very audible noise from time to time during a long drive with the AC on. On the Jag Lovers forum I learnt that the teeth on the belt was the problem, so while perhaps original, the trick was to fit a belt from the DS 420 limousine. Identical in length and width but without teeth, and available from SNG.
The noise has not come back since.
Not exactly the topic on subject, but close, so I just wanted to mention it.
