#1 Clicking noise on overdrive Unit

Post by james-t » Mon Apr 03, 2017 11:49 pm

I have recently fitted a reconditioned O/D unit and gearbox from a 420G to my E type 2 2+2. When the O/D is engaged and foot taken off accelerator and again applied i hear a metallic clicking. Foot off accelerator it clicks - foot back on its clicks ? I have by- passed the fourth gear switch on the gear box therefore eliminating a dodgy switch. Once the O/D is disengaged there is no more clicking when carrying out the same acceleration and de-acceleration. Any ideas as to what might be causing the clicking.
Thanks James.

Hi All...been out with Jim today trying to solve this clonk type noise....when you engage o/d you hear the solonoid engage.....when you come off tne throttel or back on you get a clonk....sounds like a loose u/j on the prop but it only happens when overdrive is engaged....thought it might be electrical and the solonoid disengageing but it stays in overdrive.....come on guys...need some ideas.....Thanks..Steve..

I should have a word with Overdrive Repair Services at Sheffield or thereabouts. Very helpful people, and probably now the leaders in Laycock servicing 0114 248 2632
