#1 Noizy engine on start up

Post by roy1944 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 8:18 pm

Having just taken delivery of a S1 roadster there is what i can only describe as a twitter type noise, it seems to be coming from the n/s cam cover. when the engine is warmed up it runs fine with no noise. Is this something which warrents further investigation

Without hearing it it is impossible to give a definitive opinion, but twittering does not sound very serious. It sounds more likely to be a belt /alternator / dynamo if it's a 3.8 , type of noise. Try and localise it by using a small bore rubber tube stuck in the ear as a stethoscope. By pointing it close to various parts, you should be able to hear where it comes from. Also, the one part which is given to producing this sort of noise is the water pump, so try your "stethoscope" there

My car has a very similar noise. I know it is a very minor leak in the exhaust manifold. When the car warms up it goes away.
