I assume they aren't S3-specific but would work on S2 as well?

Hi Pete,
I don't know a lot about Series 2 or 1 cars, even knowledge of Series 3 is based only on personal experience of my own car plus research. However, when looking for photos of the mirrors to send to Julian, they were often shown fitted to S2 cars. I am unaware of any door profile changes (save that all S3 and any 2+2 cars have long doors for the longer wheelbase), so I believe they should fit any LWB E-type. They may not work for the SWB cars if the seating position is much different, but I can't comment for certain.
I must add I haven't yet seen one of the new mirrors, so I don't know if it solves all problems. For instance there were comments that you must fit mirrors in different locations on drivers' vs. passenger doors; this may still be true. Also I still believe the profile of the OEM stem may differ from the currently available item - pictures seem to indicate the mirror is higher on the OEM mirror compared to the current one. Julian said to me that this hadn't been changed as yet, largely because they had such a stock of the current stem and it was too expensive to reject them all, but results of the modifications were good according to the person who tested them for him. I stress that my belief that original stem profiles differ from current profile is based solely on photo evidence - which is hard to verify accurately without holding an original stem - which I have yet to find.
My own solution using the original mirror head in clip on form has been so successful in terms of visibility and looks (admittedly a personal opinion) that I will only dril new holes in my door if I am positive all issues are sorted and that both driver and passenger mirrors are a good looking, symmetrical and safe replacement for my clip ons.
Nevertheless, I am pleased that SNG took the trouble to attempt any form of re-design; in a previous email, Julian described the change in range of angle adjustment with the new head as being from 23 degrees to 45 - a significant increase. It may be that is all that was ever needed to effect the changes required.
Regards,
Simon.

Hi Guys,
OK I now have one of the new SNG mirrors in my possession. I only have a driver?s (RHD) side mirror at the moment, but the results are very favourable and I will soon be ordering a LHS mirror to compare that. The head of the RH mirror can easily be adjusted to almost exactly the same position as my clip on mirrors, which give good visibility, so presumably the new units will give just as good visibility. The head will be about 5-10 mm lower than those I have currently fitted. Quality looks very good, indeed better than those I currently have. I am not quite sure of the source of my ?original? pattern mirrors, but these are certainly superior to them. Additionally, although SNG say they have not changed the shape of their stems for this current offering, the shape is clearly much, much better than the samples I already had (I have three) and I can confidently say that the latest mirrors from SNG are really very good, offering a much sleeker look and definitely a better mirror placement/adjustment.

Simon
