Dear Peter,

My point was/is that the next person to try this may not have Rory's background and deep understanding of the topic which leads to a 100% successful result.

You have to make things easy for the idiot, not the expert. The people who ask the questions are likely not as competent as the people who answer them, especially the people who answer them well. When I was working, our first question to ourselves was usually:- "Is this person asking the right question?" as opposed to just giving an answer.

kind regards
Marek

Maybe we should close this thread with "Congratulations" to everyone involved ?

It's a good test of a Forum when disagreements don't become acrimonious.

This will just go down as a subject that we don't all agree about, and I'm happy to acknowlege a) that I could get adventurous/careless under the anaesthetic of experience, and b) that it's probably dangerous to presuppose that one's own methods will necessarily be only ever mimicked by experienced operators.

PS. If anyone wants my damper collar-tool, they can have it for the price of the postage - I'm now expecting my dampers to outlast me.
