Remember though that a garage will be mindful of damage....damage that would be expensive to fix if they dropped it.
A single person cannot lift an E type bonnet and any competent garage would ensure at least two operatives were present. They would remove the pins and lift away and that realistically takes three people. Three lots of time equal a morning really.[/list]

"Not a one man job"........ I beg to differ, haha. With a simple rope and pully system it is a 10 minute job for one man. Undo the hinge bolts, raise the bonnet and roll the car back, simples. Mind you it did take a week to make the hoist!

If you position the car facing a wall (I have a large sheet of timber screwed up with a thick lump of foam rubber attached) remove bonnet balance links lift bonnet until it over-centres with nose on a substantial block of foam rubber and the top of the bonnet bulge resting against the wall (trial and error required here) if the support from below is the right height you can then remove the bolts and top hat tubes and back the car away leaving the bonnet perched on its nose - obviously you then need to tie it back . To refit do the reverse. I have used this trick many times to no ill effect on the bonnet .
If you are on your own there is still a way around things if you are prepared to think about it.
