Hi Steve, please don't say things like that, I already want to find a dark corner to lie in

I shall try fitting the hold down kit neater and hope, pray, fingers crossed and all such that it will solve the problem. Any others willing to cross their fingers will be appreciated

Geoff.....have you driven it to an engine rebuilder and let them listen to it...

Steve, that's my next step after trying out refitting the hold down kit.
(But of course I won't need to because that will solve the problem

)

Oh, yes I will

Despite refitting the kit ensuring all parts are neatly fitted, all cam followers snug and smooth the tappet noise is still there.
Oh the frustration!!

Will visit CMES Bracknell and ask them to listen and advise.
