Can i just voice my concern about wire wheels without tubes. Here is a short film we made of one of the failed tubeless wire wheels we have come accross
i agree the Avon CR6ZZ is a great track tyre, I also think they loook good, but they don't look period (partly because the certainly are not) and i would suggest for road use the ride will be a bit harsh. Michelin XWX
http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/20 ... n-xwx.html or Pirelli Cinturato
http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page/20 ... urato.html would be more suited to road use and give more miles per ?/$
Personally i am more a fan of fitting the tyre size that Jaguar knew was best for the car 185VR15. Lets not for one minute consider that they didn''t do loads of testing and they were innovative with tyres and their connection with Dunlop. they were fitting 70 profile 205mm tyres to their XJ6 for years before they fitted it to the E-type. A non power steering car will be much nicer to drive on a 185VR15. (What you do on the race track, and with heavily modified steering and suspension is different). It's not about power; it's about handling.
As far as what rim can you fit a 185 section tyre to; the Standard fitment is 4.5" - 6" However what you can get away with is different. A 185 section tyre is after all 7.3" wide when fitted to it's optimum size rim. for instance Ferrari regularly built cars witting rims that were an inch wider than the recommended rim width. However for road use sticking with the recomended rim width will mean you have enought tyre overhanging your rim to protect your wheels from curbing while giving your tyre plenty of structure. (again what you do for track use is another thing altogether. generally fit really wide rims because there are no curbs to hit)
I would suggest that if you want aluminium wheels then stick with a proper Borrani
