Hi,
I am thinking of buying a 123 distributor for my Jaguar 340. It is the same distributor as the E-Type, so I thought I might get some advice here.
My main problem is deciding which version to buy.
It appears that there is a specific Jag version 123\JAG-6-R-V, but there is also a generic Lucas version 123\GB-6-R-V.
I note that SNG sells the GB version and not the JAG version, which seams strange.
Can anybody advise which one I should go for?
The only engine modification is 2" carbs instead of 1/3/4"
Thanks,
Paul

I was very interested in Paul's post as I am just about to fit one myself this weekend.
Am trying to get clarity on the resolution of the Tach problem that I am expecting to encounter.
The post that David kindly added has an entry that includes the following;
"Wiring the unit as per added installation manual gives problems with my tacho.
On the 4.2 litre engines the coil is powered via the tacho. Connecting the red wire of the 123 ignition directly on the + terminal of the coil gives wrong indication on the tacho.( always 6000 rpm, with not running engine)
On the 3.8 liter engines is a separate counter installed on one of the camshafts
No problems for those motors to connect the red wire to the + terminal.
A separate + wire to the 123 ignition, The + terminal of the coil connected to the tacho and the -
terminal of the coil connected to the black wire of the 123 ignition solved this problem."
Not quite sure this is clear to me - any help appreciated. Where does the red wire of the 123 go?

On my car, the red wire from the 123 goes to the + terminal.AshM wrote:I was very interested in Paul's post as I am just about to fit one myself this weekend.

Thanks for response Ian.
Did you have to do any other wiring to sort Tach?

The only change I made was to take the ballast resistor out, the black wire runs to the negative.AshM wrote:Thanks for response Ian.
