#1 Thread size questions

Hi all .hands up I'm useless with knowing imperial thread sizes ...... to young :lol: . Anyone know the thread size on a 4.2 block for the alternator bracket . So that's bracket to block the threads in the block ..... I hope that's clear ish

Darren,

Being able to call an imperial fastener by eye is quite handy, and it impresses the crap out of some people.

But in the meantime, have look here: viewtopic.php?p=63408#p63408

Download the .pdf and keep it in the shop, along with a Vernier and thread pitch gauge.

(I can't remember offhand what the alternator bracket are, but I'd guess 3/8 or 5/16, probably NF)

I'll raise you 2/16ths and say that they are Infact 7/16" UNF, the same as the head studs.

Thanks for advice ....... but I'm going to use no more nails . It's for the alternator bracket , what could go wrong :bigrin:

I would say 1/2 inch UNF

In case you didn't know about them, consider getting yourself a thread chaser set. These are great for cleaning up threads, and also make identifying fasteners a doddle. You can get them at any decent tool supply place.

Here is an example:

A thread chart, pitch gauge, and vernier are worth having too.
