carburettor gasket

Dear Forum collegues,

working on the Stromberg carb's of my '71 V12 I found the next confusing item (sorry).

On my car between the carburettors and the inlet manifold there was one paper gasket and a thicker gasket block.
Is the paper gasket really necessary? If so I think there should be 2 per carb.

Gasket-Block-Gasket.

In the carburettor overhaul kit from Burlen there are 4 of the gaskets so I think they should be used.

But if so, are they necessary between carb and block or between block and inlet manifold.

Hi Sven....you have a S3..is that correct....if so put what model you have in with your signature.....you might also get a better response to S3 questions if you put it in the S3 section......on the S2 cars that use Strombergs they have 2 paper gaskets one either side of the spacer block...have a look at this thread...very last post...SNG have a new V12 parts catalogue...worth getting viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6798&start=20

understood, but the parts catalogue is on backorder.
In the Internet version I couldn't find it, there I can only see the block:

13. Carb spacer block C33060 4 of

but no paper seals which (4 of) are in the Burlen kit)

I'll search again and if necessary move to the S3 site.

Hello Sven,
The spacer block is as much an insulator as it is a spacer. Originally, only the spacer is used without a gasket; the spacer itself is the gasket. When you remove the carburetors, you will note the spacer is somewhat compressed in the area its caught between the metal of the manifold and carburetor. Accordingly, it may not seal as well if used again. If using the original blocks again, it would be better to use a thin gasket on both sides. If new spacer blocks are being used, the thin gaskets are not required.

thank's a lot.
I have already bought new spacer blocks because they have never been exchanged before.
They could not be removed without damage and I have found exactly what you have described.
They look like beeing compressed quite a bit and only on carb side a gasket has been added.
