Hi,

another question just coming up.
I thought that the control lamps (tank, high beam lamps, ignition) don't work.
But they work perfectly, only problem is that when I put them into the speedo
I can't see any light in the indicators (blue, yellow, red)

Looking into the holes it seems that the colored plastic indicators are somehow melted or burnt by the bulbs and are now black.

Can these be exchanged and if so where to get spares???

Chances are the red blue and Amber jewels are fine. However behind these is a rubber sleeve or boot...really just a short tube, narrow at the jewel end and wider at the other end where it fits over the metal sleeve into which you put the bulb. After 50 years they are probably all crumbly and collapsed and so the light does not reach the jewel. Remove the Speedo and then remove the rear cover and you will see. I believe they are now available as reproductions but you can also make your own using a piece of heat shrink sleeve if you are careful.

thank you for the hint.

I can't find a source for these sleeves at the Moment so I will try alternative solution.

I hope it will not shrink due to the high temperature of the bulbs

Sven, you can get LEDs to replace the old filament bulbs, that should prevent any high temperatures

Firstly none of the bulbs is ever likely to be lit for long so I would not be concerned about temperature. Secondly while you can of course replace them with led bulbs be careful with the ign one.
Most older alternators expect and are designed to have a 2.2 watt load on the ign light terminal for the internal regulator and circuit that operates the bulb to operate correctly. An led is a much smaller load and you may run into issues with it either not going out when the alternator is actually charging or even the charge regulator not allowing the alternator to charge.....it happened to me.l although not with a jaguar...the only solution was to add a 68 ohm resistor in parallel with the led bulb in the ignition light to make the load look like a bulb...

Hi,

I found the rubber caps collapsed as expected!

Firstly I just removed them and all lights work!.

I will now try to get replacement parts.
