Last year car was BLESSED with a fuel smell in the boot.
Tank now out with new hoses and clamps being fitted all round and new washers on the fuel pump and bulkhead connection
That just leaves the fuel sender and the fuel pickup on the top of the tank - if this was where the smell was coming from.
So, what have others used instead of Hylomar which did NOT seem to stop the smell of petrol filling the boot and the rest of the car.
Silicone !! or any other suggestions gratefully received as I need to cure this once and for all.
Thanks.
Fuel smell - What aternative to Hylomar ?

Apologies - I now see there were other posts on this subject.
However, if anyone can suggest some type of sealant that has worked for them it will be helpfull to me.

In my experience, silicone-based sealants swell up and de-bond when exposed to petrol. Instead, I use Permatex High-Tack Gasket Sealant, #80062, for any gasket that will see fuel. It's nothing more than rubber cement with an attitude, but works extremely well in this application. It's also my preferred material for Jaguar cam cover gaskets.

If you want a better gasket for the fuel sender, far better than the cork gasket, turn to a Volvo dealer (Volvo construction machines, s a wheel loaders, excavators, dumper trucks etcetera) and ask for a gasket with part number ZM2906069. No sealant needed for that one.

If Hylomar did not stop the smell I suggest it is coming from somewhere else such as the rubber filler hose or ventilation hose. Also check the fuel pump unions.
